Assembly Procedure

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, thoroughly clean all parts in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Do not use wiping cloths or rags to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Dirt and other contaminants can damage the precision component. Perform assembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all times.

1. Install bushing (16) and seal (17) to the depth of Dimension (A) . Dimension (A) is measured from Surface (X) seal (17) . Dimension (A) is equal to 28.0 mm (1.10 inch).

2. Use Tooling (B) to install bearing cups (12) and (15) into wheel flange (13) . Install seal ring (11) into wheel flange (13) . Install seal ring (11) to depth of Dimension (B) . Dimension (B) is equal to 4.25 ± 0.25 mm (0.167 ± 0.009 inch).

3. The special operation "Set Right" of the bearing cups (12) and (15) does not require preload or backlash adjustment. Before assembling new components check the indicated dimensions.

   C - 17.995 ± 0.025 mm (0.7085 ± 0.0009 inch).

   D - 64.360 ± 0.025 mm (2.5339 ± 0.0009 inch).

   E - 23.122 ± 0.050 mm (0.9103 ± 0.0019 inch).

4. Install wheel flange (13) .

5. Install carrier (10) into ring gear (8) . Install retaining ring (9) .

6. If necessary, position the ring gear (8) on a work bench. Use Tooling (A) to install bushings (7) to the carrier surface level.

   Note: The bushings must be assembled with the shown orientation (notch downward) do not overturn the bushings.

7. Install ring gear (8) .

8. Install washer (6) .

9. Apply Tooling (B) to bolts (7) . Install bolts (7) . Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 195.5 ± 46.0 N·m (144.12 ± 33.9 lb ft).

10. Install axle shaft (4) .

11. Install retaining ring (2) into sleeve (1) . Install sleeve (1) . Install axle shaft (3) .

End By:

1. Install the axle housing, axle shaft, and wheel flange.
2. Install final drive planetary.
