Output Shaft

Usage:

Remove Output Shaft

1. Put a mark on flange (1), nuts (2), flange (3) and twelve bolts (4) for use at assembly.

2. Fasten a nylon sling and hoist to flange (1). Remove twelve bolts (4) and the flange. The weight of the flange is 420 lb. (189 kg).

3. Remove three covers to center housing bolts (5).

4. Fasten the oil cooler (6) to the center housing.

5. Fasten a hoist to the lifting eyes on the center housing.

6. Remove twenty-two bolts (7) and lift off the center housing. The weight of the center housing is 5000 lb. (2250 kg).

7. Loosen two bolts (8).

8. Fasten two nylon slings and hoist to the output shaft as shown.

9. Remove three bolts (9) and lift the output shaft out of the bottom housing. The weight of the output shaft is 1800 lb. (815 kg).

Install Output Shaft

1. Before the output shaft is installed clean all the bearing surfaces.

2. Fasten two nylon slings and hoist to the output shaft. Hold bearing cup (1) in position and put the output shaft in the housing.

3. Tighten two bolts (2).

4. Fasten a hoist to the lifting eyes on the center housing. Put 7M7260 Liquid Gasket on the contact surfaces of the center housing and the bottom housing.

5. Put the center housing in position and install the twenty-two bolts that hold it in place.

6. Install six bolts (4).

7. Install flange (3) with twelve bolts and nuts.

Disassemble And Assemble Output Shaft

start by:

a) remove output shaft

NOTE: A press with a minimum capacity of 150 ton (1335 kN) will be needed to remove the bull gear from the output shaft.

1. Remove four bolts (11), plate (10) and the gasket.

2. Remove flange (9). The weight of the flange is 190 lb. (86 kg).

3. Remove the output shaft cover. The weight of the cover is 132 lb. (59 kg).

NOTE: The output shaft cover is not shown in the illustration.

4. Remove bearing cup (8) from the output shaft cover.

5. Remove bearing cone (7) from the output shaft.

6. Remove four bolts (1) and plate (12).

7. Push the shaft out of bearing (2), spacer (13) and gear (3).

8. Remove the key and bearing cup (5).

9. Push the shaft out of bearing assembly (4), spacer (14) and bearing cone (6).

10. Heat bearing cone (6) and the two bearing cones that are part of bearing assembly (4) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C).

11. Install bearing cone (6), spacer (14) and bearing assembly (4) as shown.

12. Install bearing cup (5) and the key.

13. Heat bull gear (3) to a maximum temperature of 350°F (176°C). Install the bull gear.

NOTE: The maximum permissible clearance between the output shaft and bull gear (3) is minus .003 in. (0.08 mm). New gear bore is 6.9820 ± .0005 in. (177.343 ± 0.013 mm). New shaft diameter for the gear is 6.9860 ± .0005 in. (177.444 ± 0.013 mm).

14. Install spacer (13).

15. Heat bearing (2) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install the bearing.

16. Install plate (12) with four bolts (1).

17. Heat bearing cone (7) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install the bearing cone.

18. Install bearing cup (8) in the output shaft cover.

19. Install the output shaft cover and flange (9).

20. Install the gasket and plate (10) with four bolts (11).
