Input Shaft

Usage:

Remove Input Shaft

start by:

a) remove top shafts

1. Remove three bolts (1).

2. Remove nine cover to housing bolts (2).

3. Install a 5/8"-11 NC forged eyebolt in the cover. Fasten a nylon sling and hoist to the cover and shaft assembly as shown. Remove the assembly. The weight of the assembly is 400 lb. (180 kg).

4. When the cover assembly is pulled clear of the housing remove the spacer from the shaft.

5. Remove bearing cup (3) from the housing.

6. Remove three bolts (4), plate (6), the gasket and flange (5).

7. Remove two bolts and install two 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolts. Fasten a hoist to the input shaft and remove it. The weight of the input shaft is 185 lb. (84 kg).

8. Use tooling (A) to remove two seals from the cover.

Install Input Shaft

1. Use tool (A) to install seal (1), lip down, against the bottom of the counterbore.

2. Use tool (A) to install seal (2), lip up, even with the front face of the cover.

3. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolts in the input shaft. Fasten a hoist to input shaft (3) and install it in the cover.

4. Install flange (4), the gasket and plate (5) with three bolts.

5. Install bearing cup (6) and spacer (7) in the housing.

6. Install a 5/8"-11 NC forged eyebolt in cover assembly (8). Fasten a nylon sling and hoist to the cover assembly as shown.

7. Put 7M6260 Liquid Gasket on the contact surfaces of the cover and housing.

8. Install the cover assembly with nine bolts.

9. Use two 3/8"-16 NC, 2 in. bolts (B) 180° apart to pull bearing cup (9) into position. Remove two bolts (B) and install the three bolts that hold the retainer in place.

Disassemble Input Shaft

start by:

a) remove input shaft

1. Use tooling (A) to remove two bearings (1) and the three spacers from the shaft.

2. Remove two bolts and install two 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolts. Use tooling (B) to remove gear (2).

NOTE: The weight of the tooling and shaft assembly less the weight of the cylinder is 265 lb. (119 kg).

3. Remove key (3), retainer (4) and bearing cup (5).

4. Remove two bolts (6), plate (7) and two bearing cones (8).


NOTICE

The bearing cones (8) can not be removed without damage to the lower cone.


Assemble Input Shaft

1. Heat two bearing cones (1) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install the bearing cones on the shaft as shown.

2. Install plate (2) with four bolts.

3. Install key (3), bearing cup (5) and retainer (4).

4. Heat gear (6) to a maximum temperature of 350°F (176°C). Install the gear on the shaft.

NOTE: The maximum permissible clearance between the input shaft and the gear (6) is minus .001 in. (0.03 mm). New gear bore is 4.3100 ± .0005 in. (109.474 ± 0.013 mm). New shaft diameter for the gear is 4.3120 ± .0005 in. (109.524 ± 0.013 mm).

5. Install spacer (7).

6. Heat two bearing cones (9) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C).

7. Install the first bearing cone and cup as shown.

8. Install two spacers (8) as shown.

9. Install second bearing cup and cone as shown.
