Location of the transmission oil filter |
The transmission oil filter is located at the front of the engine compartment on the cab side.

Components of the transmission oil filter (1) Bypass valve (2) Outlet passage (3) Inlet passage (4) Filter element (5) Housing |
Pressure oil from the transmission charging pump flows into the filter base through inlet passage (3). The oil flows through the filter base to housing (5). The oil fills the space between the inside of housing (5) and filter element (4). Normally, oil flows through filter element (4) and then to outlet passage (2). The oil then flows to the remainder of the transmission hydraulic system. Filter element (4) stops any debris that is in the oil.
If filter element (4) becomes full of debris, the restriction to the flow of oil causes a pressure increase inside the filter. The increase in pressure causes bypass valve (2) to open. The oil then flows to the transmission hydraulic system. When the oil bypasses the filter element (4), debris in the oil will damage the other components in the transmission hydraulic system.
Correct maintenance will ensure filter element (5) does not fill with debris and stop the flow of oil to the transmission hydraulic system.
