Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before moving the machine to perform the test that follows.

The following information will guide you with the sensor calibrations using Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET).

  1. From the "Service" calibration menu, select "Calibrations". Then select "Cross Slope Sensor Calibrations".

    Note: The warning shown in Illustration 3 will appear after selecting the calibration from the menu item. The warning warns of the dangers of the calibration and that the user needs to read and understand the machine service literature prior to proceeding.

  1. Click on "OK" if you have read and understand the warning.

    A window similar to Illustration 4 appears.

    The user can select to perform either of the calibrations or both. In the factory, for initial build, both calibrations need performed.

  1. Follow the instructions in Cat ET.

    Note: All conditions in Step 3.a through Step 3.i must be met prior to clicking "Next".

    1. Center the circle under the frame.

    1. Side-shift the blade until the blade is centered with the machine.

    1. Position the blade perpendicular to the machine direction of travel.

    1. Move the machine to a hard, level surface.

    1. Lower the blade to the ground.

    1. Ensure that the front tires are upright and pointing straight ahead.

      Note: Make sure that the tires are not angled or turned.

    1. Set the articulation angle of the machine to 0 degrees.

    1. Apply the parking brake.

    1. Activate the blade float.

      Note: If all conditions have not been met, then the user is reminded again in the section above the steps on the Cat ET screen.

  1. Mark the positions of the blade, the front wheels, and the rear wheels.

  1. To calibrate the blade slope sensor, perform 5.a through Step 5.f. Then, click the "Next" button.

    1. Release the parking brake.

    1. Raise the blade and turn the machine to face in the opposite direction.

    1. Align the blade with the location of the blade that is marked in Step 4.

    1. Lower the blade to the ground.

    1. Apply the parking brake.

    1. Activate the blade float.

  1. To calibrate the blade slope sensor, perform 6.a through Step 6.f. Then click the "Next" button.

    1. Release the parking brake.

    1. Raise the blade and turn the machine to face in the opposite direction.

    1. Align the blade with the location of the blade that is marked in Step 4.

    1. Lower the blade to the ground.

    1. Apply the parking brake.

    1. Activate the blade float.

  1. To calibrate the machine pitch sensor, perform 7.a through Step 7.f. Then click the "Next" button.

    1. Release the parking brake.

    1. Raise the blade off the ground.

    1. Drive forward and align the w\heels with the wheel locations that are marked in 4.

    1. Lower the blade to the ground.

    1. Apply the parking brake.

    1. Activate the blade float.

  1. To calibrate the Blade Rotation Sensor, click the arrow on "Blade Rotation Angle Sensor Calibration". Press click on the "Continue" button.

  1. Set up the calibration conditions.

    Note: All conditions in Step 9.a through Step 9.d must be met prior to clicking "Next".

    1. Move the machine to a hard, level surface.

    1. Set the articulation angle of the machine to 0 degrees.

    1. Position the blade so the blade is perpendicular to the machine direction of travel.

    1. Position the blade just off the ground.

  1. To determine the first point in the calibration, perform Step 10.a through Step 10.b. Then, click the "Next" button.

    1. Slowly rotate the blade to the left until the blade rotation angle changes by approximately 10 to 15 degrees.

    1. Slowly rotate the blade to the right until the blade rotation indicator on the frame indicates 0 degrees of rotation.

  1. To determine the second point in the calibration, perform Step 10.a through Step 10.b. Then, click the "Next" button.

    1. Slowly rotate the blade to the right until the blade rotation angle changes by approximately 10 to 15 degrees.

    1. Slowly rotate the blade to the left until the blade rotation indicator on the frame indicates 0 degrees of rotation.

  1. The calibration is complete. Press the "Finish" button.

    Note: To proceed through the calibration process again, press the "Restart" button.
