Procedure To Strengthen The Transmission Guard Mounting Points On Certain Articulated Trucks{3030}

Usage:

725 AFX
Articulated Truck:
725 (S/N: B1L1-UP; AFX1-UP)
730 (S/N: AGF1-UP; B1M1-UP)
730 EJECTOR (S/N: B1W1-UP)

Introduction

This Special Instruction outlines the field procedure to strengthen the mounting points of the transmission guard.

Ensure the information listed in this Special Instruction is understood before starting work.

Work safely. Most accidents that involve product operation, maintenance, and repair are caused by failure to observe basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous situations before an accident occurs. A person must be alert to potential hazards. This person should also have the necessary training, skills, and tools in order to perform these functions properly.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from fumes, gases and ultraviolet rays from the weld arc.

Welding can cause fumes, burn skin and produce ultraviolet rays.

Keep your head out of the fumes. Use ventilation, exhaust at the arc, or both, to keep fumes and gases from your breathing area. Wear eye, ear and body protection before working.

Protect yourself and others; read and understand this warning. Fumes and gases can be dangerous to your health. Ultraviolet rays from the weld arc can injure eyes and burn skin. Electric shock can cause death.

Read and understand the manufacturer's instructions and your employer's safety practices. Do not touch live electrical parts.

Procedure To Construct And Install Plate 1, Plate 2, And Plate 3.

  1. Fabricate Plate 1, Plate 2, and Plate 3 using 6 mm (0.25 inch ) thick steel plate. Refer to "Details for Fabricating Reinforcement Plates".

  1. If an original lug mounting point is cracked, grind/chamfer along cracked edge and clean both surfaces. Position the lug mounting point, then weld crack and dress flat.

    (B) 6 mm (0.25 inch) fillet weld. Weld around entire edge of pocket.

    (4) 8T-0065 Silicone Sealant. Use sealant on the entire span where the plate and the transmission guard are mated.

  1. For plate 1-3, position plate centrally on mounting hole and align back edge parallel to vertical wall. Refer to illustration 2 (A).

  1. Weld a 6 mm (0.25 inch) fillet around both slots in the plate. Refer to illustration 2 (B).

  1. Apply 8T-0065 Silicone Sealant around edge of plate to prevent rust. Refer to illustration 2 (4).

  1. Paint all bare metal with 4C-4192 Yellow Paint . Refer to table 1 (5).
