584 and 584HD Forwarders Machine Preheater Caterpillar

Heater Operation

Usage:

584HD 109
The preheater has five operating functions. The five functional descriptions are detailed below.

Switching On

The operating indicator light that is located on the digital timer will light when the "IMMEDIATE HEATING" button is pressed. When you switch the preheater to the ON position by use of the manual switch, the operating indicator in the switch will light. When the preheater is switched to the ON position the pump for circulating, the glow pin and the combustion air fan start to operate.

Heating Mode

Combustion in the preheater starts after approximately 60 to 140 seconds. Automatically controlled operation of heating runs at full load for a maximum of 2 hours.

Control Mode

Coolant temperature must remain within a specified threshold. The control for the preheater will change from the ON position to the PAUSE position when the coolant temperature rises above the specified threshold.

The pump for circulating the operating indicator continues to operate during the pause.

The heater will restart when the coolant temperature cools to the preset temperature.

If the water temperature in the heater is higher than the nominal temperature that has been set but the threshold has not been reached the heater will change back to the 9.0 kW (12.07 hp) stage of heating.

When the nominal temperature is reached the heater is changed back to the ON position to the 7.6 kW stage of heating.

Switching Off

The operating indicator on the digital timer (switch) goes out when the heater is switched to the OFF position. The process of combustion will be ended and the "RUN ON" phase will start.

The pump of circulation and the combustion air fan continue to run. In order to cool down the heater "RUN ON", the heater is switched off automatically after approximately 105 seconds. The heater may be switched to ON again during the "RUN ON" time.

Malfunctions

Fuel is supplied for a maximum of 240 seconds if the flame in the preheater does not begin to burn. Fuel is also supplied for a maximum of 240 seconds if the flame goes out during operation.

The fuel supply is shut off by the temperature limiter if the system overheats. The button on the temperature must be reset if the system overheats.

The "FAULT LOCKOUT" is cancelled by switching the heater to the OFF position and then switching the heater to the ON position.

If the"UNDER VOLTAGE PROTECTION " circuit is switched to the OFF position for more than 20 seconds, the fuel supply is interrupted. Also, the heater is shut off. Refer to Table 1 for the "UNDER VOLTAGE PROTECTION CIRCUT" ranges.

Table 1
"Under Voltage Protection"
12 Volts     10.5 volts to 0.5 volts
24 Volts     21 volts to 1 volt

NOTICE

A forced reset of th return spring when hot can result in damage to the component.

Fault Diagnosis

Check the fuses and check the connectors.
