Camshaft Group

Usage:

(1) Spacer block.

(2) Thrust pin. Tighten pin to a torque of ... 48 ± 7 N·m (35 ± 5 lb ft)

(3) Gear. Maximum temperature of gear when shrinking in place ... 300° C (572° F)

(4) Camshaft. Diameter of camshaft journals (new) ... 74.850 ± 0.025 mm (2.9470 ± .0010 in)

(5) Camshaft journal (rear). Diameter of camshaft journals (new) ... 74.815 ± 0.025 mm (2.9450 ± .0010 in)

Assemble with journal part no. and "rear" on this side. Maximum temperature of journal when shrinking in place is 300° C (572° F).

(6) Distance from outside face of weight (10) to end of camshaft ... 5.00 ± 1.25 mm (.200 ± .050 in)

(7) Spring (7C7841):

Assembled length ... 19.4 mm (.76 in)

Load at assembled length ... 626 ± 135 N (140.8 ± 30.4 lb)

Operating length (min) ... 18.9 mm (.74 in)

Load at min operating length ... 867 ± 135 N (195 ± 30.4 lb)

Free length after test ... 20.7 mm (.81 in)

Outside diameter ... 20.9 mm (.82 in)

(8) Pin. Distance pin is to extend above surface of the retainer ... 3.5 ± 1.0 mm (.14 ± .04 in)

(9) Plate. Assemble plate with part number visible.

(10) Weight. Shrink fit weight onto camshaft. Heat weight to a maximum of 300° C (572° F).


(12) Height of camshaft lobes.
Typical example exhaust, intake, and injector lobes.

To find lobe height, use the procedure that follows:

a. Measure camshaft lobe height (12).

b. Measure base circle (13).

Exhaust ... 55.0 ± 0.4 mm (2.17 ± .02 in)

Intake ... 51.0 ± 0.4 mm (2.01 ± .02 in)

c. Subtract base circle (step b) from lobe height (step a). The difference is actual lobe lift (11).

d. Specified camshaft lobe lift is:

Exhaust lobe ... 9.550 mm (.3760 in)

Intake lobe ... 11.371 mm (.4480 in)

Injector lobe ... 11.205 mm (.4410 in)

Minimum permissible difference between actual lobe lift (step c) and specified lobe lift (step d) is ... ± 0.13 mm (.005 in)
