Installation Procedure

Note: Check all the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the O-ring seals and the components that are worn or damaged.

Note: Lubricate the O-ring seals with the lubricant that is being sealed.

1. Install O-ring (18). Install O-ring (19). Install seal (20).

2. Attach Tooling (E) and a suitable lifting device to brake anchor (17). Install brake anchor (17). Install bolts (16). The weight of brake anchor (17) is approximately 73 kg (160 lb).

3. Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to brake housing (15). Raise brake housing (15), as shown.

4. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to brake housing (15). Position brake housing (15) on blocking. The weight of brake housing (15) is approximately 136 kg (300 lb).

5. Install spacers (14).

6. Install Tooling (F) into brake housing (15).

7. Install twelve plates (12). Install twelve discs (13).

   Note: Begin the installation procedure with a plate. Next, install a friction disc. Continue to install the plates and the discs in this order.

8. Install damper (11) with the steel side downward. Install O-ring (10).

9. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to plate (2). Raise plate (2) to install guides (6). Install springs (7).

10. Install seals (9) with the yellow side facing outward.

11. Install seals (8).

12. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to piston (4). Install piston (4) into plate (2).

13. Apply a downward force on piston (4) to install pin (5). Repeat for the remaining pins (5).

14. Position plate (2), as shown. Install seal (3).

15. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device onto plate (2), as shown. Position plate (2) onto the brake housing. The weight of plate (2) is approximately 50 kg (110 lb).

16. Install bolts (1). Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 300 ± 15 N·m (220 ± 11 lb ft).

17. Install Tooling (D). Tighten Tooling (D) to lock the brake, and maintain the alignment of the brake.

    Note: Do not remove Tooling (D) until after the wheel, bearing, and dou-cone seal is installed.

18. Remove Tooling (F).

1. Install the front service brake. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Service Brake (Front Oil Cooled) - Remove".
