Removal Procedure

Personal injury can result from failure to disconnect the battery. First, disconnect the negative battery cable. Then, disconnect the positive battery cable. A positive power lead can cause sparks if the battery is not disconnected. Sparks can possibly result in battery explosion or fire.

Note: Put identification marks on all harness assemblies for installation purposes.

1. Disconnect the batteries.

2. Remove belt (1). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Belts - Inspect/Adjust/Replace".

3. Disconnect harness assemblies (2) and (4) from alternator (5) .

4. Remove bolt (3) from alternator (5) .

5. Remove bolt (6) and remove alternator (5) .

Installation Procedure

1. If necessary, install the pulley on alternator (5). Install the nut. Tighten the nut to a torque of 100 ± 7 N·m (75 ± 5 lb ft).

2. Position alternator (5) on alternator mounting bracket (7). Install bolt (6) .

3. Install belt (1). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Belts - Inspect/Replace". Install bolt (3) to alternator (5) .

4. Connect harness assembly (4) to alternator (5). Tighten the nut for harness assembly (4) to a torque of 7.1 ± 0.9 N·m (63 ± 8 lb in). Connect harness assembly (2) to alternator (5). Tighten the bolt for harness assembly (2) to a torque of 6.2 ± 0.6 N·m (55 ± 5 lb in).

5. Connect the batteries.
