Description of Change: A new turbocharger is now used. The new turbocharger has a cast iron compressor housing and a titanium compressor wheel. The turbine housing has a stainless steel cover containing insulation. A new turbocharger oil lines group is used with the new turbocharger. The former turbocharger with the coated turbine housing is no longer available for parts service.
New software that supports these changes has also been introduced. This software must be installed when the new turbocharger is installed.
Adaptable To: The new 9EQ8534 Turbocharger Gp replaces the former 9EQ6252 Turbocharger GP. The new 269-9347 Turbocharger Oil Lines Gp replaces the former 187-6659 Turbocharger Oil Lines Gp. New 283-7229 Engine Ratings Electronic Software must be installed with the 9EQ8534 Turbocharger Gp .
Note: The 9EQ8534 Turbocharger Gp is not adaptable to engines that have a coated 9EQ6251 Manifold Gp-Exhaust installed. Replace the 9EQ6251 Manifold Gp-Exhaust with the 9EQ6939 Manifold Gp-Exhaust.

- Remove the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Remove (In Machine)".
- If equipped, remove and discard the coated 9EQ6251 Manifold Gp-Exhaust. Refer to Title "9EQ6251 Manifold Gp-Exhaust " for details of the items to be discarded.
- Install the 9EQ6939 Manifold Gp-Exhaust. Refer to Title "9EQ6939 Manifold Gp-Exhaust " and Table 4 for the manifold installation details.
- Install 1S-4295 Gasket (7) and 9EQ8534 Turbocharger (1). Refer to Illustration 2 for details.

- Flash the 283-7229 Engine Ratings Electronic Software into the Engine Electronic Control Module (ECM). The 283-7229 Engine Ratings Electronic Software is available in the form of a flash file through the Caterpillar Service Information System (SIS).
