Chain Drive (Rotor) - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide"for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations.

  1. Remove the bolts and cover (1) from chain case (2) .

  1. Remove drain plug (3) from chain case (2) and drain the oil into a suitable container. The capacity of chain case (2) is approximately 23 L (6.1 US gal).

  1. Remove the bolts and cover (4) from chain case (2) .

  1. Remove the bolts and cover (5) from chain case (2). Remove the gasket from each one of the covers.

  1. Rotate chain (6) until chain (6) is in the position, as shown. Remove rod (8) and end plate (9) from master link (7) .

  1. Rotate chain (6) until chain (6) is in the position, as shown. Attach a suitable lifting device and a suitable lifting sling to chain (6). Lift the chain (6) slightly in order to remove master link (7). After master link (7) has been removed, lower chain (6) and remove the lifting strap from chain (6) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device and a suitable lifting sling to the end of chain (6), as shown. Remove chain (6) from the chain case. If necessary, install a suitable piece of bar stock between chain (6) and the chain case and lower chain (6) on the bar stock. Remove the lifting sling from the end of chain (6) and attach the lifting sling to a link above the bar stock. Remove chain (6) from the chain case. The weight of chain (6) is approximately 147 kg (325 lb).

  1. If necessary, attach a suitable lifting device and a suitable lifting sling in the middle of chain (6). The weight of chain (6) is approximately 147 kg (325 lb). Lower chain (6) into the chain case and install a suitable piece of bar stock between chain (6) and the chain case. Remove the lifting sling and attach the lifting sling to the end of chain (6), as shown. Lower chain (6) into the chain case. Position the other end of chain (6) over the rear sprocket and rotate the rear sprocket in order to feed chain (6) toward the front of the machine.

  1. Remove the lifting sling from the end of chain (6) and feed chain (6) over the front sprocket to the position, as shown.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device and a suitable lifting sling to both ends of chain (6). Raise chain (6) slightly in order to install master link (7) .

  1. Apply Tooling (A) to the bolts. Install covers (5), and the bolts on chain case (2) .

  1. Apply Tooling (A) to the bolts. Install the gasket, cover (4), and the bolts on chain case (2) .

  1. Install drain plug (3) in chain case (2) .

  1. Fill chain case (2) with oil. The capacity of chain case (2) is approximately 23 L (6.1 US gal).

  1. Apply Tooling (B) to cover (1). Install the cover and the bolts on chain case (2) .
