NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat^® products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove bolts (1) and the washers. Remove cover (2) and the O-ring seal from final drive (3).

Remove retainer (4) from final drive (3).

Use Tooling (A) to remove outer axle (5) (not shown) from final drive (3).

Use Tooling (A) to remove inner axle (6) (not shown) from final drive (3).
Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for the final drive on the opposite side of the machine.

Start the engine and release the parking brake.

Apply Tooling (B) to the axles at locations (X).
Note: Remove all burrs from the axles before applying Tooling (B).

Use Tooling (A) to install inner axle (6) (not shown) to final drive (3).
Note: If the carrier is disengaged from the bevel gear shaft, slide the carrier on the bevel gear shaft as the inner axle is installed.

Use Tooling (A) to install outer axle (5) (not shown) to final drive (3).

Install retainer (4) to final drive (3).
Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for the other side of the machine.

Position cover (2) and the O-ring seal to final drive (3). Install bolts (1) and the washers.
Repeat Steps 4 through 7 for the final drive on the opposite side of the machine.
Stop the engine.
Check the oil levels. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Final Drive Oil Level - Check" for the correct procedure.
