Travel on Level Ground - Test and Adjust

Usage:

511 511
Note: The relief valve pressure setting must be set to the relief valve pressure specification before performing this test. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Relief Valve (Main, Load Sensing) - Test and Adjust" for the machine that is being serviced.

  1. Draw a 18.2 m (60 ft) straight line on the travel test ground as a reference line.

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Move the engine speed dial to high idle.

  1. Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 40° C (104° F) to 60° C (140° F).

  1. Raise the felling head.

  1. Position the machine so that one track is parallel with the reference line. Position the machine for the travel test.

  1. Place the travel speed control switch in the HIGH position.

  1. Move the machine by operating both travel pedals at the same time.

  1. Measure the travel time that is required to travel the 18.2 m (60 ft). Measure the time that is required in each direction.

  1. Measure the travel deviation from the reference line. The deviation should not exceed 650 mm (25.6 inch) over 25.5 seconds of travel time with the travel speed control switch in either the HIGH position or the LOW position.

  1. Place the travel speed control switch on the LOW position. Repeat Step 8 through 9.

Travel Test on Level Ground (Optional Test)

Note: When the procedure for "Travel Test On Level Ground" cannot be performed, this test may be used as a substitute.

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Position the machine on level ground.

  1. Put a mark on a shoe of each track.

  1. Raise a track off the ground.

  1. Move the engine speed dial to high idle.

  1. Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 40° C (104° F) to 60° C (140° F).

  1. Place the travel speed control switch in HIGH position.

  1. Press the travel pedal for the raised track to the full travel position.

  1. Measure the time that is required for the raised track to make three complete revolutions. Measure the time that is required in each direction.

  1. Place the travel speed control switch in the LOW position and repeat Steps 8 through 9.

Adjusting the Travel Speed

Travel motor

(1) Minimum displacement screw

(2) Maximum displacement screw

From the factory, an M12X50 setscrew is used for the maximum displacement screw. The M12X50 setscrew acts as a plug. The setscrew is not long enough to adjust the displacement. You will need a M12X70 setscrew ( 9X-8482 Setscrew ) in order to adjust the maximum displacement. An M12X80 setscrew is used for the minimum displacement screw. This screw will adjust the minimum displacement.

Refer to Table 10 for a list of the part numbers and the lengths of the available displacement screws.

Table 10
Setscrew     Length
123-4954
50 mm (1.97 inch)
9X-8482
70 mm (2.76 inch)
9X-8483
80 mm (3.15 inch)

High Speed - Minimum displacement screw (1) must be turned clockwise in order to reduce the speed of the travel motor for the high speed position. Minimum displacement screw (1) must be turned counterclockwise in order to increase the speed of the travel motor in the high speed position.

Note: Do NOT increase the speed of the travel motor in the high speed position beyond the factory setting. This will increase the speed of the motor and the gear drive beyond the allowable factory specification.

Low Speed - Maximum displacement screw (2) must be turned counterclockwise in order to reduce the speed of the travel motor for the low speed position. Maximum displacement screw (2) must be turned clockwise in order to increase the speed of the travel motor in the low speed position.

Note: You cannot reduce the speed of the travel motor in the low speed position beyond the factory setting. The factory setting is at the maximum displacement for the motor.

Note: As the travel speed in the low speed position is increased, the maximum drawbar pull decreases proportionally.
