Lever (Propel Control) and Electronic Sensor - Test

Usage:

AP-1055D A6P
Note: This procedure is performed on the propulsion control lever on the left instrument panel. The procedure is identical on the right instrument panel.

Note: During this procedure, the speed buffer and the propulsion lever sensor are tested.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.

  1. Move propulsion lever (2) to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Rotate speed dial (3) to the MINIMUM position.

  1. Move parking brake switch (4) to the ON position.

  1. Move screed lower switch (6) to the DOWN position. Lower the screed to the ground.

  1. Move throttle control switch (5) to the LOW IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second.

  1. After the engine reaches low idle, move engine start switch (1) to the OFF position.

  1. Move operator station selector switch (7) to the LEFT position.

Note: Move operator station selector switch (7) to the RIGHT position if the propulsion lever on the right instrument panel is being tested.

  1. Move key switch (8) to the OFF position.

  1. Open the access panel of the center console.

Note: Step 11 through Step 20 tests the input signal from the speed buffer to the ECM.

  1. Connect the ground clip of Tool (A) to one of the ground posts.

  1. Insert the red spoon from Tool (B) into 708-BU of terminal 24 that is on "J1" connector (9). Connect the red spoon to Tool (A) .

  1. Set Tool (A) to read "duty cycle".

  1. Move the key switch to the ON position.

  1. With propulsion lever (2) in the NEUTRAL position, the value on Tool (A) should be 50 ± 3 percent. If the value is outside the specified range, then remove the tooling. Then go to Step 21in order to test the propulsion sensor. If the value is inside the specified range, go to Step 16.

  1. Slowly, steadily move propulsion lever (2) to the full FORWARD position. Observe the reading on Tool (A). The value should steadily increase as the lever is moved to the maximum range. The value should not stop increasing until the lever reaches the maximum stop. When the lever is against the maximum stop, the value on Tool (A) should be 90 ± 3 percent.

  1. Slowly, steadily move propulsion lever (2) to the NEUTRAL position. Then, move the lever to the full REVERSE position. The value on Tool (A) should steadily decrease as the lever is moved to the maximum REVERSE position. The value should not stop decreasing until the lever reaches the maximum stop. When the lever is against the maximum stop, the value on Tool (A) should be 10 ± 3 percent.

  1. Move propulsion lever (2) to the NEUTRAL position. Move key switch (8) to the OFF position.

  1. Remove the tooling.

  1. If the readings on Tool (A ) are within the specified ranges, go to Step 34. If the readings on Tool (A) do not steadily change through the full range of propulsion lever (2) and/or if the readings are not within the specified range, go to Step 21.

Note: Step 21through Step 29 tests the sensor for the propulsion lever.

  1. Remove four screws (12) from the instrument panel.

    Illustration 7g01166627

  1. Remove bolt (14), and remove the washer. Remove cover (13) .

    Illustration 8g01166629

  1. Unplug connector (16) .

  1. Insert the red spoon from Tool (B) into contact "B" (714-YL) of connector (15). Insert the black spoon from Tool (B) into contact "C" (710-GN ) of connector (15) .

  1. Set Tool (A) to read "Ohms".

  1. Slowly, steadily move propulsion lever (2) to the full FORWARD position. Observe the reading on Tool (A). The value should steadily increase as the lever is moved to the maximum range. The value should not stop increasing until the lever reaches the maximum stop. When the lever is against the maximum stop, the value on Tool (A) should be 900 ± 40 Ohms.

  1. Slowly, steadily move propulsion lever (2) to the NEUTRAL position, and then move the propulsion lever to the full REVERSE position. The value on Tool (A) should steadily decrease as the lever is moved to the full REVERSE position. The value should not stop decreasing until the lever reaches the maximum stop. When the lever is against the maximum stop, the value on Tool (A) should be 60 ± 20 Ohms.

  1. Move propulsion lever (2) to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Remove the tooling.

  1. If the measurements in Step 16 and Step 17 were out of the specified range and the measurements in Step 27 and Step 28 were out of the specified range, go to Step 32. If the measurements in Step 16 and Step 17 were out of the specified range and the measurements in Step 27 and Step 28 were within the specified range, go to Step 33. If all measurements were within the specified range, go to Step 34.

  1. Replace the propulsion lever. Go back to Step 25.

  1. Replace the speed buffer. Go back to Step 11.

  1. If necessary, reconnect connector (16), and replace cover (13) .
