Engine Oil Pump - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Rotate the cab platform so that the access plate for the oil pan is between the tracks of the machine.

  1. Loosen bolts (1).

  1. Use two people in order to remove bolts (1) and remove access plate (2). The weight of access plate (2) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).

  1. Remove cable straps (3) that secure harness assembly (5) to rod (4) .

  1. Remove nuts (6). Nuts (6) secure rod (4) to the engine block. Remove rod (4) .

  1. Move harness assembly (5) out of the way.

  1. Remove the engine oil pump. Refer to Engine Service Manual, "Engine Oil Pump - Remove".

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the engine oil pump. Refer to Engine Service Manual, "Engine Oil Pump - Install".

  1. Move harness assembly (5) into position.

  1. Install rod (4). Secure rod (4) with nuts (6). Place harness assembly (5) next to rod (4) .
