The purpose of the harness code plug is to indicate to the ECM which model of asphalt paver the ECM is on. The ECM could operate on a variety of machines, but it must know the configuration of the machine on which it is installed. The configuration harness code plug is connected to the five harness code inputs of the ECM. The ECM operates in a manner that corresponds to the open or grounded state of the harness code inputs. The harness code plug opens or grounds a specific combination of the harness code inputs. The ECM interprets the status of the five contacts and therefore knows the model of the machine and how to operate.
