Diagnostic Information

To assist with troubleshooting, the conveyor ECM (4) displays diagnostic information on the ECM display (3). The ECM mode switch (1) is used to select the ECM modes. The display mode switch (2) is used to access information within a given mode. The four types of diagnostic information are discussed below.

Operator Error Codes - Conveyor ECM

Certain machine conditions must be present in order for the ECM to operate the conveyor and the augers in AUTO mode. If the machine conditions are not correct, the ECM declares that an operator error exists. When this occurs, the conveyors and augers will not operate in AUTO mode. The conveyor diagnostic lamp will turn ON and the error code will be shown on the ECM display when in mode 0. The operator error code will be preceded by the letter "P". The augers and the conveyors will not operate in AUTO mode until the error code has been cleared. The three different error code identifiers that are for the conveyor system are listed below.

P01 - No automatic operation - This operator error is recorded when the conveyor ECM detects that the propel ECM is not in a paving state.

P02 - System fault - This operator error is recorded when key switch is ON and the propel ECM is not communicating with the conveyor ECM.

P03 - Sonic sensors out of range (if equipped) - This operator error is recorded when the sonic sensors are not properly adjusted. The sensors are too close to the material or too far away from the material.

Reference: For more information on troubleshooting the operator error codes, refer to the Diagnostic Code Procedures, "P01, P02 or P03" modules in this manual.

Active Diagnostic Codes - Conveyor ECM

When the ECM detects an electrical problem with a component in the conveyor system, the ECM will activate a diagnostic code for the involved component. The conveyor diagnostic lamp located on the operator station panel will turn ON. The lamp notifies the operator that a conveyor system code is active. The active diagnostic code will be displayed on the ECM display when the ECM is in mode 1. The diagnostic codes are shown as "CID FMI" codes. The CID (component identifier) is a three digit number that is associated with a specific component in the conveyor electrical system. The FMI (failure mode identifier) is associated with a specific condition for the component that the ECM detects as an abnormal condition. An FMI code will always be issued with all active CID codes. A troubleshooting procedure is available for all of the diagnostic codes in the conveyor system.

Reference: For a complete list of the conveyor system diagnostic codes, refer to the Troubleshooting, "Diagnostic Code List" module in this manual.

Reference: For the diagnosttic code troubleshooting procedures, refer to the Troubleshooting, "Diagnostic Code Procedures" module in this manual.

Calibration - Conveyor ECM

When the ECM detects that a component in the conveyor system is out of calibration, the ECM will turn ON the conveyor diagnostic code present lamp located on the operator station panel. A diagnostic code may be shown on the ECM display that identifies the problem component. A calibration procedure should be performed when the ECM detects that a component is out of calibration. Calibrations are accessed in ECM mode 2. A calibration procedure must be performed when any new sensor, solenoid or ECM for the conveyor system is installed on the machine. A calibration submode is assigned to every component in the conveyor system that will need to be calibrated. The submode is a two digit number that is preceded by the letter "c". When in mode 2, the selected submode will be displayed on the ECM display. The ECM display mode switch (2) is used to access the submodes.

Reference: Refer to the Testing And Adjusting, "Calibration" module in this manual for a complete list of the calibration submodes for the conveyor system.

Active Diagnostic Codes - Burner ECM

For machines that are equipped with the Burner Electronic Control System, the display area of the conveyor ECM is used for showing burner system diagnostic information. This information is displayed when the conveyor ECM is in burner mode 3. The burner communicates with the conveyor ECM over the Cat Data Link in order to display the burner diagnostic information. For more information on the burner system, refer to the Burner Electronic Control System, KENR5001 manual.
