A logged diagnostic code 100-03 Engine Oil Pressure open/short to +batt can be generated by operating the engine at high idle with cold oil. While all 3500 EUI engines may generate this code with cold oil, the 3516 EUI with the high flow oil pump is more likely to generate this code. The code is generated by very high oil pressure when the oil is cold and the engine is ran at a high RPM. The high oil pressure goes outside the range of the pressure sensor. This high oil pressure will not harm the engine, but the high oil pressure can generate the 100-03 code.
On the 3500B with the ADEM II controller, this code is prevented with a different oil pressure sensor and delayed sensing at start-up. Due to programming restrictions on the legacy ADEM I controller, the personality module will not be updated to address this issue.
In order to prevent the 100-03 code from being generated, keep the engine at low idle until the engine oil warms up. This will keep the oil pressure down at high idle.
Follow the guidelines in the machine's Operation and Maintenance Manual for starting a machine and for warming up a machine.
