An improved assembly process is used for installing the clutch piston seals. The clutch piston seal may become inverted if the lip is not lubricated during the assembly process. A partially lubricated lip can become inverted during the assembly process. An inverted lip seal will sustain clutch pressure until the lip becomes damaged. If the lip becomes damaged, clutch pressure will be lost. The following part numbers are used for the clutch piston seals in various clutch groups: 8E-5728 Seal Ring, 8E-5737 Seal Ring, 8E-5742 Seal Ring, 9W-9371 Seal Ring, 9W-9372 Seal Ring, 9W-9399 Seal Ring and 9W-9436 Seal Ring.
The entire lip of the clutch piston seal should be lubricated with oil before installing the clutch piston into the clutch housing. The 4C-6143 Clutch Piston Installer can be used to install the 133 mm (5.24 inch) clutch pistons.
