除了良好的预防性维护保养计划外，卡特彼勒建议定期进行 S·O·S 油样分析，以监测终传动装置的状态和保养要求。
为了确保油样可以代表终传动中的机油，每次应在油温较高，油充分混合的时候采集油样。

定位一侧终传动，使油位标记水平且放油塞在底部位置。
拆下注油塞。
使用 1U-7683 吸油枪 或同等的泵插入加油口塞孔内以便获得 S·O·S 油样。安装注油塞。
对另一边终传动重复上述步骤。
注: 不要混合此终传动的油样。这些油样必须单独存放，以便对每侧的终传动分别进行分析。
为了避免油样被污染，用来采集油样的工具和用品必须干净。
