The guard is heavy. Personal injury or death may result from being struck by or trapped under the guard. Do not allow anyone to work near or under the machine when the guard is being raised or lowered. |
The bottom guard protects the underside of the machine from damage. The bottom guard can be lowered and raised manually by a winch.
Lowering the Bottom Guard
- Raise the machine to the desired level. A minimum height of 30 cm (12 inch) will allow the bottom guard to be fully lowered.
- Open the rear engine hood. The hand crank for the bottom guard is on the left side of the machine.
- Remove nut (2) that holds the hand crank. Turn handle (1) into the operating position, as shown. Make sure that ratchet (3) on the winch is engaged.

- Remove the two bolts that secure the crankcase guard. There is one bolt on each side of the engine compartment.

- Hold the handle of the winch firmly. Disengage the ratchet. The bottom guard can now be lowered.
Failure to keep a firm grip on the winch handle can allow the winch handle to spin rapidly under the weight of the bottom guard. A free spinning winch handle can cause personal injury. Always keep a firm grip on the winch handle when raising or lowering the bottom guard. If you lose your grip on the winch handle, do not attempt to stop the spinning winch handle. |
- After bottom guard (4) has been lowered, pulleys (6) can be unbolted from the bottom guard. This will allow the guard to be moved away from the machine.

Raising the Bottom Guard
- Position bottom guard (4) under the machine.

- Make sure that cable (5) is properly routed around pulleys (6). Make sure that the pulleys are properly installed.
- The bottom guard can now be raised by using the winch. Turn handle (1) in order to raise the bottom guard until the tabs at the rear of the bottom guard are lightly pressing against the bottom of the frame.

- Gently pull the bottom guard toward the rear of the machine until the tabs clear the frame. The tabs should be above the plate on the rear frame. Do not continue this procedure until the tabs are resting on top of the rear frame plate.
- Continue to raise the bottom guard until the guard is 25.4 mm (1 inch) from the rear frame. Thread the bolts and hand tighten the bolts.

- Raise the guard completely and tighten the bolts.
- Make sure that ratchet (3) on the winch is engaged. Remove nut (2). Return the hand crank to the storage position. Install nut (2) .
- Close the engine hood.
