554 and 574 Forwarders Power Train Caterpillar

Piston Pump (Hydraulic Neutral Adjustment) - Test and Adjust

Usage:

554 1AM
Note: This procedure must be performed prior to making any adjustments to the power train pump.

The neutral setting on the power train pump determines the swashplate position when no control pressure is applied to the control valve. If the machine moves with no control pressure, this procedure must be performed.

  1. Observe the differential pressure between "HP FWD" and "HP REV". If the maximum pressure difference is 2 Bars or less, adjustment of the hydraulic neutral is not required. If the pressure difference is greater than 2 Bars, proceed to Step 7.

  1. Lower the bottom guard.

Reference: Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7197, "Bottom Guard Lowering".

    (1) Slotted nut. (2) Neutral adjustment screw. (A) 14.75 mm (.580 inch).

  1. Loosen slotted nut (1) .

  1. Adjust neutral adjustment screw (2) with a 16 mm wrench and the 8T-0447 Dial Caliper. Adjust neutral adjustment screw (2) until the head of the screw is 14.75 mm (.580 inch) above the control valve block. See Illustration 5.

Note: The measurement of 14.75 mm (.580 inch) is only a baseline value. Further adjustment may be required.

  1. Continue to make small adjustments to neutral adjustment screw (2) until you observe a pressure difference of 2 Bars or less.

  1. When the correct pressure difference has been obtained, secure neutral adjustment screw (2) by tightening slotted nut (1). Tighten slotted nut (1) to a torque of 25 ± 2.5 N·m (18 ± 2 lb ft).
