SUBJECT: Certain 225-6118 Harnesses (Caterpillar Data Link) Used with the Plug and Run Wiring System May Contain Shielding

PROBLEM:

Prior to Change 02 (225-6118-02), shielded wire was used to manufacture 225-6118 Harnesses (Caterpillar Data Link). Shielding the wires causes the capacitance of the wires to exceed the CDL specification of 22pF.

SOLUTION:

Illustration 1. Location of the part number label.

Refer to the part number label. This label will be located approximately 150 mm (6.0 inches) from the connector (refer to Illustration 1).

  • If the label indicates 225-6118-02 or higher, the harness contains twisted-pair cables. A harness that contains twisted pair cables does NOT require any action.
  • If the label does not indicate a change level, the harness contains shielding. If the harness contains shielding, do NOT connect the shielding at either end of the harness.
