SUBJECT: New Engine Software Removed from SIS Web

PROBLEM:

The availability of new engine software was announced to dealers during the May 2003 "Tech Tips" broadcast. This software (237-07XX) incorporates a feature that reduces instability that is seen in a small percentage of truck engines during acceleration (under specific loads). It has been discovered that in some OEM applications with the new software installed, the tachometer may not register when the truck is moving from two to eight miles an hour.

SOLUTION:

The new 237-07XX Software will be removed from SIS Web. Updated files that will correct this problem will be released in the near future. It is recommended that trucks should not be flashed with the 237-07XX Software. If an engine is flashed with the 237-07XX Software, be sure that the driver/owner is aware of the tachometer issue.

If a customer continues to encounter significant instability during acceleration under specific loads, have your Technical Communicator contact the Caterpillar Product Phone Analyst for further assistance.

Note: Ensure that all TEPS dealers are informed of this issue.
