C12 (MBL1-3973)

Component Code: 1940

SUBJECT: Under-torqued Nuts on 219-0329 Modulating Valve Assembly (Smart Wastegate)

PROBLEM:

On the above-listed engines, there have been reports of under-torqued nuts on the 219-0329 Modulating Valve Assembly (Smart Wastegate). Low torque on modulator valve assembly nuts can cause low engine power and/or low engine boost.

SOLUTION:

If a C10 or C12 engine comes in with a low power complaint or a low boost complaint, check the torques on the modulator valve assembly nuts. The large jam nut should be torqued to 50 +/- 5 Nm (37 +/- 4 lb ft). The smaller bottom nut should be torqued to 13 +/- 1.5 Nm (10 +/- 1 lb ft). If low torque is the root cause of the complaint, report the repair using a PD code of 81.
