Component Code(s) 1408

SUBJECT: Engine will not start

PROBLEM:

Certain 3126B Marine engines with the new 70-pin customer connector harness, part number 233-8335 are experiencing a no start condition and a no external hour meter display. The battery ground wire #229 that is normally connected to Pin #2 and the hour meter battery plus Pin #12 of the 70-pin connector is missing. The 3126B Marine engines built prior to serial number 3GS01751 and after serial number 3GS01809 were shipped with a 40-pin customer connector harness. The 70 pin harness part number, 233-8335, will be back in production in September timeframe. The serial number break will be communicated once it has been determined.

SOLUTION:

Replace the 233-8335, 70-pin harness connector. The 3126B Marine engines that have been shipped with the 40-pin customer connector harness and equipped with Caterpillar Multi-Station Control System will need the wiring harness adapter, part number 9E-6178, which will need to be ordered as a miscellaneous order.
