SUBJECT: Hall Probe Sensor to Load Cell Sensor Conversion Upgrade on Uninterruptible Power Supply

WARNING: Personal injury or death can result from high voltage.

When the flywheel is spinning, the following components are energized: the bus, the armature leads, and the flywheel armature fuses.

High voltage and current are present when the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) equipment is in operation.

Improper test equipment can cause a high voltage shock hazard to the user.

Make sure that testing equipment is designed for and correctly operated during high voltage and high current testing.

The flywheel rotor RPM must be at zero (0) prior to performing any field retrofit work.

PROBLEM: In an effort to continually improve the serviceability of the UPS, field retrofit kit was designed to convert the existing Hall Probe Sensor to a Load Cell Sensor. This retrofit kit is available with all components required and includes a complete written instruction document.

SOLUTION:

Before you install the Load Cell Retrofit Kit, you must ensure that your UPS has the appropriate firmware level. The UPS must have a firmware level of revision 3.13 (SMS), 3.14 (MMS), or higher. You will have to upgrade to the appropriate Firmware Revision before proceeding. You can obtain the latest Firmware Upgrade from SIS Web.

UPSView2.5Update.exe (Upgrade for existing software) is available on SIS as flash file 222-3478.exe.

For reference, instructions regarding the firmware updating procedure can be found in RENR2476 (Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting).

Refer to Table 1 for a complete listing of applicable Caterpillar part numbers associated with the new field retrofit kit.
