Component Code: 7431

SUBJECT: 3412E Auxiliary Pressure Warning Lamp Flashing

PROBLEM:

Caterpillar has received field reports concerning the Auxiliary Pressure Sensor Warning Light. These field reports have exposed the following problems related to the Auxiliary Pressure Sensor Warning Light:

  • The Auxiliary Pressure Sensor Warning Light is constantly in a flashing state.
  • On engines not utilizing the Auxiliary Pressure Sensor feature, an "1835" fault code may be logged in Cat ET.

These two problems occur whether or not the customer is using the Auxiliary Pressure Sensor feature. Adding to these two problems is the fact that the Auxiliary Pressure Sensor feature cannot be disabled using Cat ET.

SOLUTION:

When the following procedure is performed, an Auxiliary Pressure reading will be produced in Cat ET. The following instructions will also give the user the capability to turn off the warning light. An upcoming software release will provide permanent resolution for this issue.

3. Connect one 9X-3401 Connector Pin and one 9X-3402 Connector Socket to opposite ends of the 6" BLACK Wire. Connect one 9X-3401 Connector Pin and one 9X-3402 Connector Socket to opposite ends of the 6" RED Wire.

4. Insert the pin end of the red wire into Position 2 of the 102-8802 Receptacle.

5. Insert the pin end of the black wire into Position 1 of the 102-8802 Receptacle.

6. Connect the 155-2270 Plug to the 102-8802 Receptacle.

8. On the customer connector (J61-P61), insert the red wire socket into Location 33. Insert the black wire socket into Location 15.

Note: If a wire is already inserted into Location 15, it will be necessary to remove the socket from Location 15, cut the socket off, twist the bare ends of the two wires together (the black wire from Step 8 and the wire removed from Location 15), crimp one socket onto the end of the two joined wires, and then insert the socket into Location 15.

9. Using Cat ET, enable/turn on Auxiliary Pressure. Set the Auxiliary Pressure range to Maximum (2895.5 kPa (420 psi)).
