New Transmission Shift Solenoid Valve Resists Cracking {3174}

Description of Change: A new ICM transmission shift solenoid valve group is now available for 793 and 793B Trucks. The former valve group could crack due to vibration. The new valve group has stronger internal parts and uses a larger 7.87 mm (5/16 in) nut to retain the coil assembly.

Adaptable To: The new solenoid valve group is adaptable to all 793 and 793B Trucks. It can also be used on any Off-Highway Truck or Wheel Tractor-Scraper transmission that uses the 7X-1120 Valve Gp.-Solenoid. New higher installation torques are used with the new parts. Torque the new valve assembly to 80 ± 5 N·m (60 ± 4 lb ft) at installation. Torque the coil retaining nut to 9 ± 0.5 N·m (7.0 ± .4 lb ft). Note that the coil retaining nut is shipped only finger-tight on a new valve group. This is because the coil is removed while the valve group is being installed on the transmission.

NOTE: Except for the Seal Kit, the component parts are not interchangeable between the new and former valve groups. The former parts are still available, due to usage on other models.
