Usage:
START BY:
a. remove fan assembly
NOTE: The radiator group is removed for photo purposes.
Do not remove the fan adapter bolt (1) until after the fan adapter is loosened. The bolt will keep the adapter from suddenly moving off the shaft after it is loosened. |
1. Loosen bolt (1) in the fan adapter (2).
2. Install tooling (A), and loosen the fan adapter. Remove the fan adapter bolt and washer. Remove the fan adapter (2).
3. Remove the oil supply lines (5).
4. Remove four bolts (3). Remove the fan drive (4).
5. Remove the 10 bolts that fasten the fan drive adapter in position. Remove the fan drive.
6. Use care during removal to prevent seal damage.
Install Fan Drive
1. Check the seal for damage. If damaged, use new parts for replacement.
2. Put the fan drive adapter in position, and install the 10 bolts that hold it.
3. Put fan drive (1) in position.
NOTE: Clean the taper of the adapter bore and shaft before assembly. Remove all oil and foreign material from the shaft and adapter bore.
4. Install oil supply lines (3) and fan drive adapter (2).
5. Install the adapter washer and bolt in the fan drive.
6. Tighten the adapter nut to a torque of 358 to 405 N·m (265 to 300 lb.ft.). Hit the nut with a hammer, and tighten again to a torque of 358 to 405 N·m (265 to 300 lb.ft.).

Disassemble Fan Drive (Earlier)
START BY:
a. remove fan drive (earlier)
1. Remove O-ring seal (1) from the fan drive housing.
2. Remove bolts (2) from the cover. Remove cover (3). Remove the O-ring seal from the cover.
3. Remove the seal from the cover with tool (A) and a press.
4. Remove shaft assembly (4) from the fan drive housing.
5. Remove lock (5) from nut (7). Remove the nut and the lock from the shaft with tool (B).
6. Make the ring separation, and use tooling (C) to remove two rings (6) from the shaft.
7. Put the shaft in a press, and remove bearing (7) from shaft (8).
Assemble Fan Drive
1. Heat the bearing to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install bearing (1) on the shaft.
2. Install two rings (2) on the shaft with tool (A).
3. Install lock (3) and nut (4) on the shaft. Tighten nut (4) on shaft to a torque of 200 ± 25 N·m (150 ± 18 lb.ft.). Bend the lock against the nut.
4. Install shaft (5) in the fan drive housing.
5. Install the seal in cover (6) with tool (C).
6. Install O-ring seal (7) in cover (6). Install the cover on the fan drive housing. Install O-ring seal (8) on fan drive housing.
