New 6V4950 Injection Line Speed Pickup Group Used With 6V2100 Multitach{0651}

Usage:

The 6V4950 Injection Line Speed Pickup Group is another diagnostic tool accessory that can be used with your 6V2100 Multitach (Illustration 1). It can be used on all Caterpillar Diesel Engines equipped with 6 mm (.25") single wall fuel injection lines. With this pickup group, engine speed can be measured quickly, automatically, and with an accuracy of ± 1 rpm. The actual pickup is a small clamp which is installed on a standard 6 mm (.25") fuel injector line (Illustration 2). It has the ability to "feel" the pulses (small, rapid expansions) in the line each time fuel is injected. The interval between each pulse is measured by the 6V2100 Multitach and converted to engine R/MIN (revolutions per minute) on the display screen. A standard cable is used to connect the pickup to the multitach PH (photo) input.

A big advantage of the 6V4950 Injection Line Speed Pickup Group is that it can be installed on any one of the fuel injection lines, and these are usually located near the top of the engine with easy access (Illustration 3). A small section of paint (approximately 10 mm / .38") needs to be removed from the injector line where the pickup is installed to make a good connection.

NOTICE

The injector line must be repainted before the engine is returned to use. This is to prevent damage to the line by corrosion, which can cause fuel spray and possible fire.

The pickup can be used under wet conditions, after being sprayed with a light water displacing lubricant. It can also be permanently installed on the fuel injection line if desired.

This pickup can be used on all except the following Caterpillar engines:

All 3500 Series Engines. These engines have unit fuel injectors with low pressure fuel lines.

3300 Series, 3400 Series, D379, D398, and D399 Engines equipped with double wall fuel injection lines. These lines are offered as optional equipment on the engines listed.

In addition to the basic 6V4950 Injection Line Speed Pickup Group, the accessory items which follow are available for use with the 6V2100 Multitach.

6V4190 Autoprogrammer

This permits automatic programming of the multitach when it is powered and when changing between the PH (photo) and MAG (magnetic) inputs.

5P7366 Power Cable

This is used to connect the multitach to any 11 to 40V D.C. power source.

6V2198 Photo Input Extension Cable

This cable is 6 m (18 ft) long and can be used to connect the pickup to the multitach when the shorter cable can not be used.
