Use The Correct BrakeSaver Seal Group{1155}

Usage:

3406 And 3408 Truck Engines With BrakeSaver

Reference: Service Magazine, September 14, 1981, Pages 14 and 15. In the article "Changes To BrakeSaver Groups Give Longer Service Life," there was an explanation that the 5S9022 Seal was replaced by the 9N6600 Seal Group. The new seal group has the wear sleeve assembled with the seal as a unit.

The 7N1999 Seal Group for the engine crankshaft has the same seal, and looks very much like the 9N6600 Seal Group used in the BrakeSaver. But, the wear sleeve in the crankshaft seal group is 3.8 mm (.15") wider than the one in the BrakeSaver seal group.

Use of the 7N1999 Seal Group in the BrakeSaver has caused the wear ring to be forced against the metal seal ring carrier. This caused rotation of the seal ring carrier and seal ring. The result was damage to the seal ring carrier and the seal ring.

Make sure you use the correct seal in the BrakeSaver. Do not use a crankshaft seal group for this application.

See the illustration for location of the metal seal ring and the correct position of the wear sleeve of the 9N6600 Seal Group.
