Exhaust Manifold - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the turbocharger.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Remove heat shield (1), heat shield (2), heat shield (3), and temperature sensors (4).

  2. Remove brackets (5) and (9).

  3. Remove clamp assembly (6).

  4. Remove and discard nuts (8). Remove the spacers and remove the exhaust manifold assembly (7).

  5. Remove and discard clamp assemblies (16) and bellows (15).

  6. Remove and discard clamp assemblies (11) and bellows (12). Separate the exhaust manifold sections (10), (13), and (14).

  7. Remove temperature sensors (17).

  1. Install exhaust manifold assembly (7) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Install new clamp assemblies (11) and new bellows (12).

    2. Position the new bellows (15) and install new clamp assemblies (16) (not shown). Ensure that the end of the bellows with the taper (A-A) is facing the exhaust manifold.

      Torque Sequence

    3. Position the exhaust manifold into place and install Tooling (A) at Location (X).

    4. Apply Tooling (B) on the threads of the new nuts (8). Tighten nuts (8) in the above sequence to a torque of 20 ± 3 N·m (15 ± 2 lb ft). Tighten nuts (8) again in the above sequence to a torque of 38 ± 5 N·m (28 ± 4 lb ft).

    5. Apply Tooling (C) on the threads of temperature sensors (4). Tighten temperature sensors (4) to a torque of 45 ± 5 N·m (33 ± 4 lb ft).
