Caterpillar does not recommend aftermarket insulation on the exhaust components. Reports of damage to exhaust components and increased fuel, oil, and water temperatures have been reported on engines with aftermarket insulation on the exhaust manifold and/or on the turbocharger.
In selected instances, Caterpillar may design the insulation and Caterpillar may also provide the insulation as an option from the factory. Ordering insulation as an option from the factory will ensure that the entire balance of heat of the engine is considered and the heat load will be addressed.
The Caterpillar Warranty only covers defects in "Material and Workmanship" on products that are provided by Caterpillar. Damage to the engine that is caused by the addition of insulation that is not approved is not covered by the warranty.
