Illustration 1g01005332

There are several specific warning signs on this machine. The exact location of the hazards and the description of the hazards are reviewed in this section. Please become familiarized with all warning signs.

Make sure that all of the warning signs are legible. Clean the warning signs or replace the warning signs if you cannot read the words. Replace the illustrations if the illustrations are not legible. When you clean the warning signs, use a cloth, water and soap. Do not use solvent, gasoline, or other harsh chemicals to clean the safety signs. Solvents, gasoline, or harsh chemicals could loosen the adhesive that secures the warning sign. Loose adhesive will allow the warning sign to fall.

Replace any safety sign that is damaged, or missing. If a safety sign is attached to a part that is replaced, install a safety sign on the replacement part. Any Caterpillar dealer can provide new safety signs.

------ WARNING! ------

High Pressure Cylinder!

Do not remove any valve, hydraulic fitting, or valve core, nor disassemble any parts until pressure has been relieved, or personal injury may occur.

To relieve pressure:

  1. Refer to the Service Manual for the correct method of dissipating hydraulic system pressure.

  1. Relieve gas pressure in the accumulator cylinder by opening the charging valve one turn only.

Charge the cylinder with dry nitrogen gas.

See your Caterpillar dealer for tools and detailed information required for charging cylinders.

----------------------

Improper Connection of the Jump Start Cables (3)

This warning label is positioned under each of the covers for the battery compartments. One battery compartment is located on each side of the machine.

g00947488

------ WARNING! ------

Improper jumper cable connections can cause an explosion resulting in personal injury. Batteries can be located in separate compartments. When using jumper cable always connect positive (+) cable to positive (+) terminal of battery connected to starter solenoid and negative (-) cable from external source to starter negative (-) terminal. (If not equipped with starter negative terminal, connect to engine block.)

----------------------

No Clearance (4)

This warning is located near the articulation joint.

g00038790

------ WARNING! ------

No clearance for person in this area when machine turns. Severe injury or death from crushing could occur.

----------------------

Pressurized Coolant (5)

This warning label is located next to the radiator cap.

g00977524

------ WARNING! ------

Pressurized system: Hot coolant can cause serious burn. To open cap, stop engine, wait until radiator is cool. Then loosen cap slowly to relieve the pressure.

Do Not Weld on the ROPS (7)

This warning label is located on the left hand side of the cab.

g00917819

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result when voiding this certification.

Structural damage, an overturn, modification, alteration, or improper repair can impair the ROPS structure's protection capability thereby voiding this certification.

Do not weld on or drill holes in the structure.

To avoid possible weakening of this ROPS, consult a Caterpillar dealer before altering this ROPS in any way. The protection offered by this ROPS will be impaired if it has been subjected to structural damage.

Consult a Caterpillar dealer to determine this structure's limitations without voiding its certification.

Hydraulic Pressure (11)

This warning label is located on the hydraulic tank.

g00977535

------ WARNING! ------

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system on this machine after the engine and pump have been stopped. Serious injury can result if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic systems. In order to prevent possible injury, release the hydraulic system pressure before working on any fitting, hose, or hydraulic component.

Lower all attachments to the ground before service is started. If the hydraulic system must be serviced, tested, or adjusted with the attachment in the raised position, the attachments and lift cylinders must be supported properly.

Always move the machine to a location away from the travel of other machines. Be sure that other personnel are not near the machine when the engine is running and tests or adjustments are being made.
