Log Loader Pillar - Disassemble

Start By:

  1. Remove the log loader pillar. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Log Loader Pillar - Remove".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Install pin (1) in the top of the pillar. Use Tooling (A), a threaded rod, and two nuts in order to attach a hoist and lifting slings to the pillar. Attach lifting chains to the lower portion of the pillar in order to keep the pillar completely vertical.

  2. Place the pillar in the vertical position on Tooling (B). The weight of the pillar is 250 kg (550 lb).

  3. Remove two bushings (3) from the pillar base.

  4. Remove two O-ring seals (2) from the pillar base.

  5. Remove eight bolts (4) and cover plate (5).

  6. Remove seal (7).

  7. Remove plug (9).

  8. Use Tooling (C) to remove retainer (8). Remove ring (6).

  9. Use the hoist and the lifting slings in order to separate the pillar from the pillar base.

  10. Use a hoist and suitable lifting slings to place the pillar base in the horizontal position.

  11. Remove two bolts (10) and the washers. Remove service platform (11).

  12. Repeat Step 11 for service platform (11) on the other side of the pillar, as required.

  13. Remove clamp (13) which holds oil tube (15) in place.

  14. Disconnect oil tube (15).

  15. Remove eight bolts (14) and the bushings.

  16. Remove tube (12).

  17. Remove O-ring seal (16) from tube (12).

  18. Use two persons to remove bar (17). The weight of bar (17) is approximately 25 kg (55 lb).

  19. Remove four bolts (25) and four seals (22) from bar (17).

  20. Remove retainer (21) and ring (20).

  21. Remove piston (23). Remove seals (18), (19), and (24).

  22. Repeat Steps 13 through 21 for the other tube assemblies, as required.

  23. Remove bearing (27).

  24. After two bars (17) are removed, remove bolt (26). Remove bearing (28) from the inside of the pillar base. Remove bolt (26) and bearing (28) from the other side of the pillar base.

  25. Remove seal (31), bushing (30), and scraper (29) from the pillar base.
