Testing and Adjusting, SENR8565, "14H and 16H Motor Graders Power Train", "Testing and Adjusting - Power Train - Adjustment of Cables for Transmission Control - Adjustment Procedure". This module is part of the following manuals: Service Manual, RENR8585, Service Manual, SENR8560, Service Manual, RENR1405 and Service Manual, RENR1410. Disregard the procedure and refer to the following procedure.

Adjustment Procedure

  1. Ensure that all of pins (4) for the ends of the cables are in slot (5) of the valve spools.

  1. Adjust the nuts (10) on the end of the cable for equal number of threads on both sides of the housing.

  1. Put the transmission direction and speed control lever (1) in the "Reverse-Neutral" position. Remove the cover for the control linkage.

  1. Remove the bolt and the lockwasher that holds end (9) to lever (8) .

  1. Pull upward on the end of the cable to the end of travel. Adjust end (9) until the hole in the end of the cable is aligned with the hole in lever (8) .

  1. Put the transmission direction and speed control lever (1) in the "Forward-Neutral" position.

  1. Push down on the end of the cable until the cable stops. Use the following steps if the hole in end (9) is not aligned with the hole in lever (8) :

    1. Measure the distance of the misalignment of the holes.

    1. Adjust end (9) until the end is one half of the measured distance.

  1. Install the lockwasher and bolt in end (9) and lever (8) .

  1. Remove the bolt and the lockwasher that holds end (6) to lever (7) .

  1. Push down on end (6) to the end of travel. This should put the selector spool into the "EIGHT SPEED" position. Pull up on the end of the cable until four positions have been felt. These positions will be the positions of detent for the following speeds: "SEVENTH", "SIXTH", "FIFTH" and "FOURTH". The selector spool should be in the "FOURTH" speed position.

  1. Place the transmission direction and speed control lever (1) in the "FOURTH FORWARD" position. The lever must be in the center of the notch for detent.

  1. Adjust the end (6) until the hole in end (6) is aligned with the hole in lever (7) .

  1. Install the lockwasher and bolt in end (6) and lever (7) .

  1. Check the position of the transmission direction and speed control lever (1) in all forward and reverse speed positions. If necessary, adjust end (6) .
