- Off-Highway Truck:
- 797 (S/N: 5YW1-UP)
Description of Change: A new lock and a new shim pack are used in the steer linkage of 797 Off-Highway Trucks. The new shim pack contains three thin shims and three thick shims. The thin shims are 0.13 mm (0.005 inch) thick. The thick shims are 0.38 mm (0.015 inch) thick. The new lock and the new shim pack use a new torque procedure to improve the service life of the steer linkage.
Adaptable To: The new 201-4759 Lock and the new 201-4758 Shim Pack are direct replacements for the former 135-5260 Lock and the former 177-1737 Shim Pack. The new 201-4759 Lock and the new 201-4758 Shim Pack are effective with 797 (S/N: 5YW254) Off-Highway Truck. Use the following torque procedure to adapt the new parts to all earlier 797 Off-Highway Trucks.
Note: Do not reuse used 8T-0070 Bolts.
Item     | Quantity     | Part Number     | Description     |
---|---|---|---|
1     | 1     | 201-4758     | Shim Pack     |
2     | 1     | 201-4759     | Lock     |
3     | 2     | 8T-0070     | Bolt     |
- Install 8X-1834 Pin (A), two 8T-0070 Bolts (3), and two 8T-3282 Hard Washers (B) .

- Tighten the bolts to a torque of 250 ± 10 N·m (185 ± 8 lb ft). Check the torque of the previous bolt. Continue to check the torque until the bolts do not move at a torque of 250 ± 10 N·m (185 ± 8 lb ft).
- Slip 201-4759 Lock (2) and 201-4758 Shim Pack (1) into the center slot. Use as many thick shims and thin shims as necessary. Install the shims and the lock while the bolts are torqued.
- Loosen and remove the bolts (3). Install lock (2) with the previously determined shims (1). Add one additional thin shim.
Note: Do not use more than two thin shims in the final pack. If three thin shims are required, substitute one thick shim for the three thin shims.
- Install the bolts and washers.
- Tighten the bolts to a torque of 350 ± 10 N·m (258 ± 8 lb ft). Check the torque of the previous bolt. Continue to check the torque until the bolts do not move at a torque of 350 ± 10 N·m (258 ± 8 lb ft).
- Turn the first bolt by an additional 90 to 100 degrees.
- Mark the second bolt and torque the second bolt to 250 ± 10 N·m (185 ± 8 lb ft). If the bolt turns go to Step 4 and add an additional thin shim. If the bolt did not turn, turn the second bolt by an additional 90 to 100 degrees.
