NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Do not damage the radiator core during removal or installation of the fan group.


Note: Refer to the identification marks on all hoses, wires, tubes, and guard assemblies during the installation procedure.

  1. Clean all mating surfaces before beginning the installation procedure.

  2. Attach a suitable lifting device to fan spider assembly (64), as shown. The approximate weight of fan spider assembly (64) is 240 kg (529 lb).

  3. Position fan spider assembly (64) against fan adapter (66).

  4. Install eight bolts (65) and the hard washers in order to attach fan spider assembly (64).

  5. Remove the lifting device from fan spider assembly (64).

  6. Attach two suitable lifting slings to support assembly (62) (not shown). Attach a suitable hoist to the lifting slings. The approximate combined weight of support assembly (62) and fan spider assembly (64) is 513 kg (1131 lb).

  7. Remove four bolts (63) and the washers in order to remove Tooling (A) from support assembly (62) and fan spider assembly (64).

  8. Remove the lifting device from Tooling (A).

  9. Position support assembly (62) and fan spider assembly (64) against the radiator module.

  10. Install eight bolts (63) and the washers in order to assemble support assembly (62) and fan spider assembly (64) to the radiator module.

  11. Remove the lifting slings from support assembly (62).

  12. Install Tooling (B), as shown.

  13. Locate top left shield assembly (60) and top right shield assembly (61) onto Tooling (B).

    Note: Refer to the labels on all guard assemblies in order to aid in the assembly procedure.

  14. Position left guard assembly (59) onto Tooling (B). Install 14 bolts (58) and the washers in order to attach top left guard assembly (59).

  15. Install hose assembly (56) and hose clamp (57). Tighten hose clamp (57).

  16. Remove Tooling (B). Install two bolts (58) to the top of left guard assembly (59).

  17. Position top right guard assembly (55) onto Tooling (B). Install 20 bolts (54) and the washers in order to attach top right guard assembly (55).

  18. Install hose assembly (52) and hose clamp (53). Tighten hose clamp (53).

  19. Remove Tooling (B). Install two bolts (54) to the top of right guard assembly (55).

  20. Install 17 bolts (50) in order to assemble middle left guard assembly (51).

  21. Attach middle right guard assembly (49) by installing 17 bolts (48).

  22. Install two bolts (47) and the washers in order to install bracket (46).

  23. Install Tooling (B), as shown.

  24. Locate bottom left shield assembly (44) and bottom right shield assembly (45) onto Tooling (B).

  25. Position bottom left guard assembly (43) onto Tooling (B). Install 13 bolts (42) and the washers in order to attach bottom left guard assembly (43).

  26. Remove Tooling (B). Install two bolts (42) to the bottom of left guard assembly (43).

  27. Position bottom right guard assembly (41) onto Tooling (B). Install 20 bolts (40) and the washers in order to attach bottom right guard assembly (41).

  28. Remove Tooling (B). Install two bolts (40) to the bottom of right guard assembly (41).

  29. Connect hose assembly (36) by using four bolts (37), four washers (38), and half flange (39).

  30. Connect hose assembly (32) by using four bolts (33), four washers (34), and half flange (35).

  31. Attach hose assembly (31).

  32. Assemble the following parts: bolt (23), clip (24), clip (25) and grommet (26).

  33. Install clip (30) by installing bolt (27), nut (28), and hard washer (29).

  34. Install the following parts: two bolts (17), two hard washers (18), clip (19), clip (20), clip (21) and grommet (22).

  35. Connect wire harness (16) to speed sensor (14).

  36. Install lockwire (15) to speed sensor (14) and wire harness (16).

  37. Attach bottom cover (5) by using two clips (13), two bolts (12), and the washers (11).

  38. Tighten two clamps (6) in order to attach tube (7) to bottom cover (5).

  39. Install two clips (10) by using two bolts (9) and two washers (8).

  40. Install two bolts (2) and connect handle (4) in order to attach top cover (3).

End By:

  1. Install the radiator module in the truck. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Radiator Module-Install".
