Belt tension that is incorrect can result in the early failure of the 5L-3834 V-Belt. The 5L-3834 V-Belt is part of the 142-9108 Alternator Gp for the listed machines.

The maintenance interval that is recommended for the 5L-3834 V-Belt is every 250 service hours or every 30 days. Maintenance should include a visual inspection of the V-Belt in order to check for wear and for damage. V-Belts that are worn or damaged should be replaced. Maintenance of the V-Belt should also include adjusting the belt for correct tension. The recommended method of checking belt tension is using a Borroughs belt tension gauge. A typical Borroughs gauge is shown in Illustration 1.
