(1) Torque for 38 nuts ... 430 ± 60 N·m (317 ± 44 lb ft)
Check the torque with a torque wrench at the following positions:
- Twelve o'clock
- Six o'clock
- Three o'clock
- Nine o'clock
(2) Coat the surfaces of the washers and the surfaces of the rings with 6V-4876 Lubricant.
(3) Torque for 48 bolts ... 270 ± 40 N·m (200 ± 30 lb ft)
Note: Apply 154-9731 Thread Lock Compound to 48 bolts (3) .
Note: Do not use the four bolts in the corners to pull the final drive housing into initial contact with the tandem.
(4) Shim pack
- Four shims ... 0.20 mm (0.008 inch)
- Six shims ... 0.05 mm (0.002 inch)
Adjust shim pack (4) in order to achieve 0.025 to 0.076 mm (0.0010 to 0.0030 inch) end play.
(5) Assemble the sprockets so that the teeth on the sprockets are aligned with each other.
(6) Ensure that the lip seal is flush with the end of the housing.
(7) Lubricate the sealing lip lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.
(8) Torque for 32 bolts ... 270 ± 15 N·m (200 ± 11 lb ft)

Assemble the cut that is in the rings within the dimension that is specified of 45 degrees ± 10 degrees. The first diagonal cut is at position (A) and the second diagonal cut is at position (B).
