TH62, TH63, TH82, TH83 and TH103 Telehandlers Power Train Caterpillar

Installation Procedure

1. Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

2. Lower the temperature of two bearing cups (17) and use tool (C) in order to install the two bearing cups into the axle housing.

3. Raise the temperature of two bearing cones (16). Use tool (B) in order to install one bearing cone onto pin (6) and pin (11).

4. Install the two dust seals for each side of the axle.

   Dust seal (14) is installed on all rear axles except the TH103. Dust seal (14) is also installed on all fixed front axles.

   1. Install two dust seals (14) into each steering case (13) after you have carried out step 5.

      Dust seal (15) is installed on the TH103 rear axle. Dust seal (15) is also installed on all the front oscillating axles.

   2. Install one rubber seal (15) onto pin (6) and pin (11).

5. Install tool (A) in order to support the axle hub (1). The weight of the axle hub is 76 kg (170 lb). Use a second person to steady axle hub (1) while you carefully install the axle hub onto the axle.

6. Install lower pin (6), six bolts (5) and the washers. Tighten bolts (6) to the following torques:

   • Bolt M14 x 2.00. Torque 190 ± 3 N·m (140 ± 3 lb ft).

   • Bolt M12 x 1.75. Torque 120 ± 3 N·m (88.5 ± 3 lb ft).

7. Install upper pin (11) and shims (12). Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Axle Housing and Bearing Preload - Adjust". Install six bolts (8), the washers and the mounting bracket (9) for the fender. Apply a small amount of 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound onto the threads of four bolts (8) that are used to secure mounting bracket (9). Tighten bolts (8) to the following torques:

   • Bolt M14 x 2.00. Torque 190 ± 3 N·m (140 ± 3 lb ft).

   • Bolt M12 x 1.75. Torque 120 ± 3 N·m (88.5 ± 3 lb ft).

8. Install tie rod (4) into the steering case of axle hub (1). Install nut (3) and tighten the nut to a torque of 275 ± 15 N·m (200 ± 10 lb ft). Install split pin (2).

9. Remove tool (A).

End By:

1. Install both front wheels. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel and Tire - Remove and Install".

2. Fill the front axle with new oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential Oil - Change".
