Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Remove the fan guard. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Guard - Remove and Install".
Pressurized System: Hot coolant can cause serious burns. To open the cooling system filler cap, stop the engine and wait until the cooling system components are cool. Loosen the cooling system pressure cap slowly in order to relieve the pressure. |
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin. |

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Drain the coolant from the radiator. The capacity of the coolant system is 22 L (5.8 US gal).
- Put Identification marks on all lines, hoses, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the oil system.
- Loosen retaining nut (1) in order to disconnect hose (2) from oil cooler (6). Loosen retaining nut (3) in order to disconnect hose (4) from oil cooler (6) .

- Remove clamp (5) which secures oil cooler (6) to the mounting bracket.
- Loosen clamp (8) and disconnect hose (9) from radiator (7) .

- Loosen clamp (11) and slide oil cooler (6) out of hose (10). Remove the oil cooler.
- Loosen retaining nut (13) in order to remove tube (12) from oil cooler (6) .

- Loosen clamp (14) and remove hose (9) from oil cooler (6) .
