Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may be harmful to your health

Always start and operate the engine in a well-ventilated area and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.

  1. Move the transmission control to the NEUTRAL position. The transmission control must be in the NEUTRAL position before the engine will crank.

  1. Adjust the steering column tilt and telescope control. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Steering Column Tilt and Telescope Control".

  1. Move the parking and secondary brake control to the ENGAGED position. The parking and secondary brake control must be in the ENGAGED position before the engine will crank.

  1. Check the Caterpillar Monitoring System for correct operation. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Caterpillar Monitoring System" .

  1. Turn the engine start switch key in order to start the engine. Release the engine start switch key when the engine starts.

  1. Operate the engine at low idle until the Caterpillar Monitoring System verifies that the engine oil pressure is normal.


NOTICE

Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds. Allow the starting motor to cool for two minutes before cranking again.

Turbocharger (if equipped) damage can result, if the engine rpm is not kept low until the engine oil light/gauge verifies the oil pressure is sufficient.
