Before you work in an access platform, perform the following procedures in order to check the functionality of the electric pump for retracting the boom and for lowering the boom. This procedure will also determine if the machine is equipped with an electric pump that is in operating condition. The machine may still be operated from anaccess platform if the machine is not equipped with an electric pump. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Boom Lowering and Retracting without Hydraulic Power" for more information.

You must understand the operation of the machine from an access platform. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Access Platform Control" for more information.

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Level the machine frame and lower the stabilizers.

  1. Stop the engine. Turn the engine start switch key to the ON position. Do not start the engine.

  1. Turn the keyswitch for the lockout system as far as possible in a clockwise direction.

  1. Enter the access platform.

  1. Start the engine from the access platform.

  1. Raise the access platform to a height of approximately 1 m (3 ft) above the ground.

  1. Extend the boom by approximately 1 m (3 ft).

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Ensure that push button (1) for stopping the engine is in the ON position. When the push button is out, the push button is in the ON position. If necessary, turn the push button clockwise until the push button springs back to the ON position.

  1. Lift lock (2) and turn switch (3) clockwise, if equipped. In this position, the lock cannot fully close over the switch. The push buttons for retracting the boom and lowering the boom are now energized.

  1. Press push button (4) and hold the push button in order to retract the boom. Release the push button when the boom has fully retracted.

  1. Press push button (5) and hold the push button in order to lower the boom. Release the push button when the boom has fully lowered.

  1. When the access platform has fully lowered to the ground, turn switch (3) counterclockwise and lower lock (2). The lock must lock the switch in position.
