Ensure that the diagnostic code is on hold. Ensure that the diagnostic code is active.

FMI 06 is recorded when the transmission electronic control module senses a short to ground in the relay's circuit.

Note: The following procedure may cause additional faults. Ignore the additional faults. Clear the additional faults after FMI 06 has been cleared.

FMI 05 is present. The parking brake alarm is disabled.

  1. Check the relay.

    1. Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.

    1. Remove the parking brake relay.

    1. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.

    1. Measure the voltage from contact 2 to contact 1. Take the measurements on the relay.

The results of the preceding procedure are in the following list:

      • The resistance is not 90 ± 10 ohms. The relay is faulty. Replace the relay.

      • The resistance is 90 ± 10 ohms. The relay is functioning properly. Proceed to 2.

  1. Check the harness.

    1. Clean the relay.

    1. Install the relay.

    1. Verify that the key start switch is in the OFF position.

    1. Disconnect the machine harness from the control module.

    1. Measure the resistance from contact 39 to contact 38 at the machine harness connector.

The results of the preceding procedure are in the following list:

      • The resistance is less than 75 ohms. The circuit has a short. The signal wire F765-BR has a short to ground. The short is between the relay and the transmission electronic control module. Repair the harness or replace the harness.

      • The resistance is 90 ± 10 ohms. The relay is functioning properly. The cause of the problem has not been isolated. Proceed to 3.

  1. Verify that the diagnostic code is present.

    1. Verify that the key start switch is in the OFF position.

    1. Inspect the connectors and inspect the contacts.

    1. Connect the machine harness to the control module.

    1. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.

    1. Enter the service mode.

      Reference: System Operation, "Diagnostic Operation".

    1. Operate the machine.

    1. Check the diagnostic indicator. Note the active faults.

The results of the preceding procedure are in the following list:

      • The fault is active. The fault has not been corrected. The transmission electronic control module may be faulty. Proceed to 4.

      • The fault is not active. The fault was caused by a poor electrical connection. Clear the fault. Refer to System Operation, "Diagnostic Operation".

  1. Verify that the transmission electronic control module is faulty.

    1. Verify that the key start switch is in the ON position.

    1. Verify that the fault is present. Verify that the fault is active.

    1. Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.

    1. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.

    1. Verify that the fault is present. Verify that the fault is active.

The results of the preceding procedure are in the following list:

      • The fault is present and the fault is active. The transmission electronic control module is faulty. Replace the transmission electronic control module. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".

      • The fault is not present. Clear the fault. Refer to System Operation, "Diagnostic Operation". Resume normal operation.
