The Electronic Control Analyzer Programmer (ECAP) is not required in order to determine the diagnostic codes and the ECAP is not required in order to clear the diagnostic codes. However, the process of determining the diagnostic codes is easier and faster by using the ECAP. This allows the ECAP to be a useful tool for troubleshooting.
The ECAP connects to the machine diagnostic connector and the ECAP communicates with the electronic control modules over the data link. The diagnostic connector is located in the battery box. For more information and the locations of the connectors, see Testing and Adjusting, "Electrical Components and Connector Locations" and the Electrical System Schematic in your machine's Service Manual.
Connect the ECAP to the machine. Turn the key start switch to the RUN position. Start the ECAP. The ECAP will initiate communications with the electronic control modules on the machine.
The ECAP is not needed to determine or clear service codes, but it makes the tasks easier and faster.

"Screen: 1" (1) The current speed of the machine is displayed. The machine's current direction (2) The current state of the neutralizer switch (3) The current state of the parking brake (4) The current state of the neutral lock switch (5) The actual transmission gear (6) The transmission output speed is a signal from the speed sensor. (7) The fifth gear lockout switch is configured during the module's configuration. The top gear is also configured during the module's configuration. The software's setting has priority over the switch's setting. If the top gear is set to the fourth gear in the software, the fifth gear lockout switch will have no effect on the system. The item will be displayed as "DISABLED". (8) The voltage that is applied to the ECM |
Screen 1 provides troubleshooting information. The ECAP screen will display the following information:
- Transmission Speed
- Requested Gear
- Actual Gear
- Status of the Neutral Lock Switch
- Status of the Parking Brake
- Status of the Neutralizer Switch
- System Voltage
- Status of the Fifth Gear Lockout Switch
The ECAP also has the ability to display the history about the diagnostic codes.
Refer to Tool Operating Manual, SEHS9343, "Determining the Diagnostic Codes with the ECAP". This publication has detailed instructions for the ECAP. Then follow the troubleshooting procedure.
