  1. Inspect all parts and clean all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

  2. Apply 3S-6252 Sealant as a 3 mm (0.12 inch) radial bead at reference point (14) to the contact surface of wear plate (13) only. Apply 3S-6252 Sealant as a 5 mm (0.2 inch) radial bead at reference point (15) to the contact surface of wear plate (13) only.

  3. Immediately position wear plate (13) on oscillating hitch (1). Install two bolts (12) and the dowels on wear plate (13).

  4. Apply 4C-9500 Quick Cure Primer to the outside diameter of two bushings (11). Allow the bushings to dry for three minutes.

  5. Apply 4C-4032 Bearing Mount Compound over area (X) on the outside diameters of bushings (11). Assemble bushings (11) into the frame within five to ten minutes of the application.

  6. Install seal (10) on rear frame (9). The seal and the inside diameter of bushings (11) should be packed with 7X-7699 Lubricating Grease prior to the installation of the hitch assembly.

  7. Attach the suitable lifting straps and a hoist to oscillating hitch (1). Use Tooling (A), the hoist and a block in order to level oscillating hitch (1) on the hoist. Apply 7X-7699 Lubricating Grease to the tube of oscillating hitch (1). Slowly install oscillating hitch (1) to rear frame (9).

  8. Attach Tooling (B) and Tooling (A) to drive shaft yoke assembly (3), as shown. Use two persons in order to install drive shaft yoke assembly (3), and the hitch shaft (not shown) to housing (5).

  9. Use a large punch in order to assist in the installation of drive shaft yoke assembly (3).

  10. Install nine nuts (6) and the washers that secure drive shaft yoke assembly (3) to housing (5).

  11. Use a ratchet wrench and locking plate assembly (2) in order to install thrust flange (4) to drive shaft yoke assembly (3). Use the ratchet to rotate thrust flange (4) until the assembly is tight. Then use the ratchet to back off thrust flange (4) one notch. Secure locking plate assembly (2) to drive shaft yoke assembly (3).

  12. Install oscillating hitch (1) to the machine. Remove the lifting straps and the hoist.

End By:

  1. Install the hitch drive shaft. See Disassembly and Assembly, RENR1511, "Hitch Drive Shaft - Remove and Install".

  2. Install the parking brake. See Disassembly and Assembly, "Parking Brake - Remove and Install".

  3. Connect the front and the rear frames. See Disassembly and Assembly, "Front and Rear Frame - Seperate and Connect".
