------ WARNING! ------

Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the power train.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Use the following procedure before you perform testing and adjusting:

    • Place the propel control lever in NEUTRAL.

    • Place wedges of wood under each drum.

    (1) Needle valve.

  1. Loosen the setscrew with a 5/64 allen wrench. The setscrew is located on needle valve (1). Turn the needle valve clockwise in order to close the valve.

  1. Set the speed range switch to the HIGH SPEED position. Turn the automatic speed control knob to the MAXIMUM speed (if equipped).

  1. Move the propel control lever to either the forward direction or the reverse direction. Read the maximum pressure at the test port. The relief valve pressure should be 42000 ± 1380 kPa (6090 ± 200 psi).

    (2) Main relief valves. (3) Pressure override valve.

  1. If the pressure of the POR valve is not correct, adjust the POR valve (3). Use a 13 mm wrench to loosen the locknut. Use a 4 mm allen wrench in order to adjust the pressure of the POR valve. Turn the adjusting screw clockwise in order to increase pressure. Turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise in order to decrease pressure.

  1. Turn needle valve (1) counterclockwise in order to open the valve. Tighten the setscrew with a 5/64 inch allen wrench.
